RE: Buying a 5th wheel in this economy....

Speaking with my dealer last week he said that he only has two banks that will even lend money for RV's both require a credit score of 750+ to be approved and then the intrest rates were up around 9%. IF your credit score is 850+ then that might drop your intrest .25 - .5%! Basically he said that he is not selling nothing! Looking at the prices he had posted on his units and given the current economic situation I can see why. When times were good he was selling them a whole lot cheaper. I am just glad I got my fiver two years ago before all of this hit, there is no way I could pull it off now. Good luck with getting your reduced price, one would think the dealer would rather make a little money than no money!

RE: 5er. Olympics...?

How about the strong man contest? Chasing after your fiver and getting it stopped after you realize you forgot to set the chocks! Shortest distance traveled combined with time wins!

RE: 2500 HD Towing 12,000 lbs

I tow a 32' 5er with a gross rating at just a little over 12K# with a 04 Ford F-250 powerstroke diesel. No problems what so ever! I too was a little concerned when I bought this 5er coming from a 29' TT, I must admit that I have been very pleased with the towing. Remember just because the 5er is rated for 12K# does not mean that you will have it loaded to the max most of the time. Happy Camping.

RE: Forest River Wildcat Gel Coat Bubble/Delamination

All the fiberglass/filon sided units will delaminate. It is just a matter of time. Rvndave, How long is a matter of time? I had my previous TT for 10 years and it never delaminated.

RE: Disney Dining Plan - Is it Worth the $$

We went last year in October, DW made reservations so I don't know the cost, stayed in a Disney resort (5 of us) and had the meal plan. The food is very expensive there and we figured we did save money. Had at least one sit down meal every day and they will give you the reciept as if you paid for it and those sit down meals were all over $100 each. Plus if you are staying in the resort, you can go to the resort store and buy a whole box of doughnuts, nabs or whetever and that will count as one snack that you could use in the park for the whole family. If you use it right it can more than pay for itself. If you choose cheaper places to eat you may loose money. Good luck with your choice and have fun. We will be heading that way again in October as well. We will be taking our kids on the Disney Cruise. Never done that before so it ought to be different.

RE: New to towing, need some help.

Welcome to the forum. I will second getting the hitch put on by the dealer, a lot of times you can even get it worked in with the camper deal. Another option would be your local Chrysler dealer. As far as towing, don't worry about it too much, the trailer will follow you where ever you want to go! 1. Biggest thing is to swing wide with your turns & keep one eye in the mirror. 2. Don't turn too sharp! The camper will introduce itself to the back of your jeep. 3. Anticipate other drivers in front of you suddenly stopping or pulling out in front of you. 4. Take your time backing up. When new at backing a trailer, turn around and watch the trailer out the rear window. Good luck with the new toy & happy camping.

RE: Myrtle Beach TP Roads

I am another frequent customer of MBTP and you will have no issues with the unpaved roads. Very tightly packed sand even when wet the roads are as hard as wood pecker lips!

RE: Ever been to one of those campgrounds.....

What was the park rated? Did you get a "Good Sam's" discount? No, actually DW stayed there when she was little and wanted to take the kids there to expierence it. To her credit she said that she won't go back again! I guess when you are little you don't pay attention to the logistics of a campsite, although my kids do: Our favorite campground has a huge bridge with poor expansion joints just before we get to the CG. My kids say they know when we are just about at the CG, not because the TV & 5ver are bucking like a rodeo bronc but because I go to cussing like sailor!:S

Ever been to one of those campgrounds.....

OK, I won't mention the campground because the locals there were real nice and I don't think that this CG was really made for road warriors. First off, I have a 32' fiver and went to this local private lake campground that has 90% of the residents set-up permenantely. There is one way in this CG & one way out. The road was 10' wide at the widest point (the trees right next to the road is what regulated the road width). Oh, don't let me forget to mention the SHARP turns! The first site they tried to put me on was in the center of a circle-a-bout. I would have to jack-knife the fiver in there from about 110 degree angle without the truck ever being able to leave the road for other campers & trees next to the road. The next site they tried to put me on they said a 40'er would fit on it. A 40' rope curled up would have issues fitting on that site!:h Not to mention the trees, cars & campers parked on the edge of the road so again, no room to meneuver. Finally ended up on a site that I spent a little time adjusting to the TREES so I could open my slides! But it made it worth while for all the locals to sit 10' away on their porches & just watch me set-up. The agrivating part was the parade of golf carts that followed me around from site to site to watch how everything was going to unfold. Like I said in the opening though, when I got out & chewed some tobacco & ate squirrel with the locals they really were good people.:W

RE: No day/night shades in bunkrooms?

I have a 07 Forest River 32QBBS which is the exact same floor plan as the OP mentioned & mine has day/night shades on all windows in the bunk house.

RE: Rear Stabilizer Install with Pics

Farmer, Great Job!!! Very impressive. I have been toying with the idea myself but just couldn't come up with a way that I would not have to remove the pipe each time. Now I know. Are you planning on installing one to go front to rear as well?

RE: 2009 Wildcat 32 QBBS?

Congrats on the new purchase. Take a small TV with you and maybe a DVD. Check all the coax TV connections (Wildcats have had notorious issues with splitters being installed incorrectly causing snowy reception or no reception at different TV locations) Just because you have good reception in the main living area does not mean you will have good reception in the bunk house or main bedroom. Also the Concertone should be checked for proper operation & sound as several members have had these replaced. I believe there are newer & improved models in the 09's though so maybe you will be good on that. Also if you have the black tank flush....check it! Mine was not connected up when I went to use it. Overall you will be very happy with your unit. We have the 07 model and love it.

RE: Dometric Recall

Went to "Camping World" and got my kit today (free). Been looking at the instructions and plan on getting started tomorrow. Make sure all parts are included (see parts list in instructions) because the first kit they gave me was missing over half of the parts. They said if I have problems just drag the ole 5ver over there and they will finish it. I stand corrected. I guess you can get the recall kit to install yourself. I am surprised! I called Dometic and asked them to send me the kit and they refused to because they told me that it had to be done by a "certified technician":h I would like to see those monkeys certification at my dealer. I would not trust them to check the air pressure in my tires! I wish I would have tried camping world.:S

Anyone Heading to Myrtle Beach, SC for the 4th?

Just going over some last minute items in my head before heading out to Myrtle Beach this weekend for a week of camping. I was thinking that there are several campgrounds there and they are usually full especially during the 4th, just wondering how many members on the east coast was heading in that direction. We will be staying at Myrtle Beach Travel Park from the 28th to the 5th. Hopefully maybe see some of you there.:)

RE: LCD TV

Actually, all the brands you mention get good reviews. I bought a 20" HDTV to carry along in my motorhome recently. I researched the various review sites, and bought a Vizio. Never heard of that brand before, but the reviews were outstanding. Now that i have one, I agree. If you find one that you like, google it for reviews. You'll know right away if owners are happy or unhappy with their TVs. A good place to look for reviews (and to compare pricing) is Amazon.com Frequently the better non-eBay prices are at Costco or Amazon I agree, I recently heard on a afternoon talk radio show that new LCD TV's are so relieable that the Consumer Reports had to change their scale in which they are measured on. Compared to the old style TV's the new TV's were off the scale in the reliability department. In fact they did say that the Dell Tv's ranked the lowest of all, BUT, that even the lowest ranked Dell was still head and shoulders compared to the old style TV's. Another thing that was suggested is to not get a extended warrenty with these TV's because the history of them indicates that it is a waste of money! :)

RE: Concertone-Any Love?

Had Concertone main unit replaced one time (wouldn't play DVD's) New unit in there has volume problem as mentioned by a previous poster. Sometimes takes the notion to just quit working, remote is almost useless at times, sometimes unit will not cut off, sometimes unit will not cut on. And the latest is the Concertone flat screen TV. It crapped out on me 1 day after the warrenty went out. Dealer is a @$$ about it. The worst part is the TV worked when I took my 5er to the dealer to have the Dometic recall done. Warrenty was still in, when I dropped it off. Took them a week to do a 45 minute job and the warrenty on my 5er went out along with the TV while sitting on the dealers lot! In process of replacing the TV and will be scheming in my head this weekend to replace the other functions of the piece of******Concertone!

RE: Shut off Refrig or leave on between trips?

We leave ours running all the time. Here is NC the humidity can get bad and when I bought my first TT we turned off the fridge after every trip. But this caused the fridge to mildew when left off. We turned it on and never turned it back off again for the remaining 9 years that we owned it and never had a bit of trouble out of it. New 5ver has been on for 1 year now with no issues.

RE: Lets talk Backing the Fifth Wheel

Anyway after reading this post I really gained nada except most thought the poster was making a fox paw by asking.. I"M ASKING!! I'm about to spend about 70 K and wanna know every damn thing I can cram in before I sign the papers... Trip Trip I understand your thirst for knowledge and it comes down to it being your personal choice. I came across the same thing when I purchased and went with the get the slider crowd. Because everyone else said if you be careful you will never need it, I did not use it for a long time (too much hassle). Then one day while backing in a spot I got pre-occupied watching the tires in the mirror and made contact with the fiver & truck cab. Luckily no damage was done to either, but if I would have been 2 seconds longer to look back it would have been a bad trip. Now when I check in I always pull the slider back and have enjoyed being worry free & I am glad of my decision. Talking short bed vs. long beds and slider vs. no-slider is liking talking politics. If money is not the issue you could spend the little extra for the slide and post again 2 years from now and tell newbies how you never needed it but always knew in the back of your mind that it was there if you got in a pinch.

RE: Lets talk Backing the Fifth Wheel

I don't see where you do need a slider hitch. Sounds like you are getting all the angle that you want or need without the slider. I am confused as to why you wrote the post though!?! You haven't needed a slider before, you do fine without one, you are not a pay me now or later kind of guy. So why the post? My kids like pop-tarts. I don't care for pop-tarts. Why should I care why my kids like them? If it ain't hurting them and no one is forcing me to eat it....

RE: Short Bed vs Long Bed

Must agree with 66stang351! No the OP never stated weather it was a standard cab, extended cab, crew cab, crew cab with the extended cab, Mega cab, Ford, Chevrolet or Dodge. If I am purchasing a vehicle I already have my mind made up of weather I am getting a crew cab or standard cab and the only deciding factor would be long or short bed. With all things considered the only difference in length would be the bed. Sounds like a straight forward question and straight forward answers to me.:R http://bestsmileys.com/signs11/12.gif Must be a FORD thing. As long as we can agree to disagree:C A loaded question indeed. I feel for the OP trying to get useful information out of a p!$$!#G contest:B
